Technology in the Classroom Essay There is no doubt technology had transformed teaching and the way students learn; however, in the world of education, there are those who believe technology is a vital asset in the classroom and there are those who completely oppose it. Either way, technology has become the leading force in society today; no one can escape it. It is important for educators to find the most effective ways of using technology in the classroom without relying solely on it. The keys to effective use of technology are remaining involved in the learning process of the student while using technology, keep teachers trained on new technology available, and never overusing it. Using technology effectively in the classroom will help develop a student who is ready and able to face the post graduation world successfully. In Becoming a Teacher, Parkay and Stanford, claim 46 percent of teachers use computers in the classroom on a weekly basis. These statistics are from the seventh edition, so it is safe to say those numbers have clearly risen and now have quite an impact in the classroom. With increasing use of technology, teachers need to make sure they are committed to the inclusion of technology in their lesson plan by developing new assessment techniques to evaluate studentsââ¬â¢ work. For instance, a teacher cannot simply grade a student on correct answers because he or she could have simply looked them up via the internet; the teacher must evaluate what the student is learning based on evidence of critical thinking and real-world problem solving. Plagiarism may become an issue with the use of technology, so it is important for educators to explain the importance of studentsââ¬â¢ writing their own material and citing sources they may have used. Parkay and Stanford also claim that, although school districts are developing new approaches to providing teachers with support for integrating technology, they are not spending an adequate amount of money on the training. With the abundance of technology available to teachers, it is important for them to receive sufficient and ongoing training. Teachers are doing everything from emailing parents to designing complete lessons that require student so use the Internet as a resource and part of their participation; these educators need to remain proficient in the ways they choose to use technology. Also, some claims are being made that students are becoming more ââ¬Å"tech savvyâ⬠than the educators and this puts the teachers at a disadvantage when assessing the students learning. Teachers are beginning to rely on the students for help in the classroom and this sets an uneven tone in the classroom; teachers will lose their credibility. Once educators begin to realize how powerful a tool the computer can be to learning, they must resist the urge to rely solely on it. It must remain clear that the computer and the Internet is just another form of literacy available to them while teaching. A lesson plan should include reading, writing, listening, speaking, and the use of technology for visual and audio stimulation. Although technology provides students with the ability to learn in a nonlinear fashion, they still need other learning tools that will provide a basis for effective overall learning. Teachers need to remain in control of the classroom lesson and not leave the students to fend for themselves while using technology. Some critics believe teachers are, in fact, overusing technology. They claim computers will not improve education, and therefore, are not needed in the classroom. Some claim older effective teaching methods will be thrown out and overlooked because of the convenience of technology. There are many difficult questions surrounding if technology should remain at the center of learning, or if teachers should consider using them as only sources of entertainment. I believe, technology provides students with effective ways of learning that keep them on-track with the increasing technological world we live in and if teachers utilize it correctly, it will prove to be an effective strategy for teaching.

Corporate Fear of the MP3 The mp3 audio format is widely championed as the new great leveling format in the music business and the savior of local and unknown performers in the face of conglomerate-owned record labels, portrayed as giant, bloated entities who fear and despise the new format and seek to curtail its popularity and accessibility. In reality, the mp3 format is no different than previous innovations in portable recorded music software -- vinyl, cassette tapes, or compact discs all improve on their predecessors in sound quality and portability -- the mp3's novelty is its extreme accessibility, and once a conglomerate fully realizes the potential with which to exploit the new medium, the format becomes the latest appropriated technology. Corporate fear of the mp3 will only last as long as it takes for someone to figure out how to regulate and enforce the new format. Opposition to the mp3 by large corporations rests on the grounds of property and copyright law enforced by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the trade group which oversees "the recorded music you enjoy every day" (www.riaa.com). In addition to certifying gold and platinum sales records of albums, the RIAA lobbies against censorship of artists but conversely proposed and enforces placement of "parental advisory/explicit content" stickers on what they judge to be "offending" albums. The RIAA's concern with the mp3 format is how easily the format lends itself to the illegal industry of CD piracy. Added to a personal computer-run CD creator software/hardware package (a CD "burner" plus blank CD-R discs), the mp3's economic use of byte space while preserving digital CD sound quality is a potential gold mine for would-be pirates, and despite RIAA efforts ("confiscation of 23,858 illegal CD-Rs during the first half of 1998, as compared to 87 in the same period last year" ), CD pirates in the U.S. as well as many countries around the world continue to peddle "counterfeit" discs at "flea markets, from street vendors, at swap meets, and in a concert parking lots" (ibid.). The discs are regarded as counterfeit by the RIAA as well as the federal government because duplication of the work, which is copyrighted to the artist, their record label, or both, or others, is a violation of federal copyright law. * The Cause of Conflict is Because of Irresponsible Management. It was discovered that the predecessor of hosur health care had appointed five Supervisors to lead the centerââ¬â¢s work force. He had little credibility with the employees. They had each been selected on the basis of seniority or their friendship with the previous manager. * The Communication Between the Management and the Employees was not Good. It was seen all the employees wer either demoralized or had tough, belligerent attitude towards the management. The employees were not afraid to settle their differences with their fist or verbal abuse. The predecessor had unintentionally encouraged this disruptive activity by largely depending upon the supervisor, to handle such problem and not being available to other employees. This led to the communication gap between the management and the employees. * No proper policies wer formed to for smooth operations at work. Which even led to cultural differences. Hosur health care was dominated by south Indians where budha was the only employ who is a north Indian. Which led to lot of differences between budha and other employees. There was a policy where the employees can listen to the radio when they are at work. But there was no policy which stated what kind of songs they can listen to. Anybody who come first at work place can play his favourite radio station for the rest of the day which was one of the reason for the conflict to start * There was no Human-Resource Department at Hosur Health Care. All the previous recruitment wer done by the manager himself. There was no human-resource department at hosur health care. This led to poor recruitment and no background check wer done, thus seven convicted felons wer recruited who wer fearless. * Managing Conflict (AVODING) The previous manager use to avoid all his responsibilities. Whenever the workers need him, he was never there. He was solely dependent upon the supervisors he had appointed. The maximum he would do is hollered at the workers and leave without even trying to settle the problem and resolve the issue. (All this points wer the major reason behind the conflict. Which forced the employees to develop a feeling of hatred towards each other and towards the management).

Introduction The five sources that I have selected to help with my enquiry are photographs, an extract from a newspaper article and a soldiers diary. The reasons why I chose these five particular sources is because I believe that they are a wide variety of selections, dating back to many years, all ranging from the start of the war to the end of the war. It also does not tell us or show us how many people were in jured or died in the first battle of the Somme, but from my own knowledge I know that there were sixty thousand casualties on the first day of the battle of the Somme. Casualties includes both dead and wounded. The normal proportion was about four wounded for every man killed, so approximately twelve thousand died and fourty eight thousand were wounded. Because this photograph is quite a close up one you begin to question whether or not this image was actually staged. The soldiers are actually looking at the camera and smiling which makes you question the reliability of the source. I also happen to know that it would have been pretty hard for a person to have taken a photograph of the trenches close up.
